Study Links Hair Relaxers To Fibroid Tumors and Early Puberty In African American Females

A new study in the American Journal of Epidemiology has linked hair relaxers to uterine fibroids, as well as early puberty in young girls.
Scientists followed more than 23,000 pre-menopausal Black American women from 1997 to 2009 and found that the two- to three-times higher rate of fibroids among black women may be linked to chemical exposure through scalp lesions and burns resulting from relaxers.
Women who got their first menstrual period before the age of 10 were also more likely to have uterine fibroids, and early menstruation may result from hair products black girls are using, according to a separate study published in the Annals of Epidemiology last summer.  [Continue reading.]

  13. Please chime in...

I am very respectful of people and their time. If I call or text you I always ask if you're busy. If so, we can talk later. Its never that serious, ya know? So here's a convo that happened last night...

    Me: Hey

    J: Hey

Me: What are you up to?

    J: Watching Iron Man

M: Ok well hit me up when you have time

    J: What are you doing?

At this point I'm gonna assume that since you're engaging in the convo past me saying hit me back. You must be ok with talking. Please correct me if I'm wrong! So the conversation progresses. Here's what happened like an hour into the conversation...

    Me: So how's Iron Man?

J: It would be good if my phone stops going off

Me: So you're trying to be funny?

J: Nah I just want to watch my movie in peace

    Me: Goodnight

WTF?! I'm puzzled at this point because I did not impose on your peaceful movie time. If this person recalled, I said, "Ok hit me up when you have time." When in turn they could have said, "Ok!" That would have been that. But nooooo, you decide to carry on a conversation that you didn't want to have only to shut it down because you're "trying to watch a movie in peace." FOH! I was sooo annoyed because what you wont do is flip the shit on me like I'm ruining your peaceful night. Nah, that's on you homie. Needless to say, I wont be texting this person again. If they want to talk to me they should simply contact me. What do you guys think? Am I overreacting?
